Robert Ewing, MD
Caring and focused, Dr Ewing’s attention to detail and tremendous experience assist him in mastering modern surgical techniques and state of the art technologies.
Rob grew up in a Navy family and lived in many parts of the world, learning early on the importance of different cultures.
Dr Ewing attended Rice University earning his degree in Biochemistry, then received his medical degree, with honors, from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. After completing a residency in Ophthalmology at Stanford University, Dr Ewing completed a glaucoma fellowship at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. During this time, Dr Ewing continued teaching at the Stanford ophthalmology clinics with the academic rank of Assistant Clinical Professor.
Dr Ewing was the first physician in San Francisco to perform a cataract operation using a foldable lens implant.
He was the regional glaucoma consultant for Kaiser-Permanente for many years before joining Siskiyou Eye Center. He has taught other eye surgeons at many professional meetings and was awarded the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award for his service to ophthalmology education.
Dr Ewing’s early global experience coupled with his strong desire to help others, led him to travel oversees as a medical volunteer performing and teaching eye surgery in third-world countries.
An outdoor enthusiast, Dr Ewing, enjoys riding his mountain and road bikes. He also enjoys camping, hiking and snow skiing with his three children. He is a photographer and spends too much time on his computer.
